We packed everything up and headed to Kentucky to check out the two sites.  The Ark Encounter and The Creation Museum.  One thing I would say is to plan a little bit.  We had a hard time finding a campground that had an opening for 3 nights on short notice.  Most campgrounds were all booked for the rest of the month. One place I called said you should call several weeks in advance.  Luckily, we did manage to find a place about 30 minutes out. Ark Encounter Our first stop was The Ark encounter.  As far as tickets go they do offer combo tickets you can buy that give you a $10 savings.  Something that they only mention on their website (It may have been listed somewhere but, I didn’t see it) and not at the facility is a military discount. Anyway, if you are active military or a veteran they offer special pricing so, be sure to ask.  We saved an extra $10 with this discount. This is a full-scale replica of the Ark Noah built in the bible.  So, It is built to the specs in the bible.  It’s absolutely massive and really something to see.  You can go inside and tour all the floors.  They have recreated the inside with all the cages and containers that held the animals and food storage.  you can tour the living quarters as well.  They set up the interior according to how they believed it was set up.  It was really a neat experience.  They also have a zoo and more to do. But, if you do everything there plan to spend the day. Creation Museum This second museum has botanical gardens, an Eden animal experience, a museum, and more.  So, we walked through the beautiful botanical gardens and the museum.  Be prepared to read, there’s a lot of information.  They have a dinosaur exhibit, live speakers, and more in the museum.  The creation museum goes over creation as described in the bible. But, it goes over a lot of other information as well.   It was full of information and a very interesting museum.  Stay tuned for our next post we will be back on the boat. I took a few photos and have included them.  Enjoy! Cheers, Jill

A National Park in the Middle of A Town https://www.anotheradventure.net/a-national-park-in-the-middle-of-a-town/ Fri, 15 Oct 2021 09:30:21 +0000 https://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3258 As we continue to make our way south to our boat we continue finding neat places to check out.  After our last stop at the Fish Boil, and some family time we made our way to this spot.  A National Park in the Middle of a Town.  Yep, this was a pretty neat stop that we have been looking at for a while.  Up til now it just didn’t work out.  We finally had some extra time so we made our way here.  Where is here?  Well, it’s the Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas.  So, let’s dive into it. The Campground We got up early and headed into the Nat. Park Campground so we could hopefully get a site.  This campground is first come first serve and doesn’t allow reservations.  So the plan was to hopefully get a spot from someone who was leaving.  It worked out perfectly and we got a beautiful spot backing up to Gulpha Creek.  Next, you go into a little building and pay for your reservation at a pay station.  Then, attach your receipt to your site and you are all set.  This was one of our favorite National Park Campgrounds we have stayed at so far.  It is very clean, has beautiful views, spacious spots, and hiking trails right at the park.  It was fantastic we could just pick a trail and go. The Hiking They have two trails that start right at the campground and several other trails that branch of from those trails.    The weather was perfect our entire visit.  Shortly after getting set up we grabbed the dogs and headed out to check out the park.  This is where we happened upon our first hike.  After we went a while the terrain started to get a little more aggressive and we realized we should have better shoes on besides flip flops.  It was getting hot as well, so we headed back to the camper.  On our next hiking trip, we got going a little earlier, brought plenty of water for us.  We did 3 of the hikes.  Just shy of 5 miles.  It was a beautiful hike.  We did the Gulpha Gorge Trail, The Goat Rock Trail, and The North Mountain loop.  I would definitely recommend those, they were strenuous and had some fantastic views.  We didn’t have time to do all the hikes, but I imagine they all offer something unique and beautiful. The Town Bathhouse Row is in the middle of the town of Hot Springs.  There are 9 buildings encompassing the row.  One of them is not available to visit, but the other 8 are.  The visitor center is located in the Fordyce building.  This building has been restored to its original state and is very neat to walk through.  You really can see how things were back in the 1900s during the craze of people coming to the Hot Springs for treatment and just to enjoy.  A lot of people thought the waters had healing properties and people came from all over for it.  There are still 2 active bathhouses today.  The Quapaw ad Buskstaff.  you have to make reservations, they did not take walk-ins.  This may be due to COVID, so it could change down the road. I tried to take a lot of pictures to share because it was such a neat place to see.  Speaking of neat things to see.  They actually have a brewery in the Superior Building.  They claim to be the only brewery in the world to use thermal springs in its beer-making process.  We stopped in to check it out.  They had some good beers and several good ciders.  They also had fantastic food.  Great place to check out. This was a little gem and I highly recommend making plans to visit here, we really enjoyed it. Cheers, Jill

We are going to a Fish Boil https://www.anotheradventure.net/we-are-going-to-a-fish-boil/ Fri, 24 Sep 2021 09:30:55 +0000 https://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3245 On our way to visit my side of the family, we made a couple of stops.  One that I had done when I was younger and enjoyed.  So, this week we take you on that stop.  We are going to a Fish Boil, Yep! you read that right.  If you haven’t heard of one, stick around there is a video showing the event. Last post I left you off in Michigan after seeing some of Dave’s family.  After that, we worked our way around to Door County, WI.  They are known for their fish boils.  Many places offer them and have them several times an evening.  They aren’t every night and they book up fast so if you want to check them out, I recommend making a reservation.  If you are wondering what a fish boil is, check out the video below.  It is a great way to spend an evening.  We really enjoyed it. After the fish boil, we moved onto Minnesota and spent some time with my family.  It was great as always to catch up with everyone.  We continue to make our way south as we work our way back to the boat.  Next time, we find a great National Park in the middle of a town.  Check back for that post, it’s a pretty cool stop.  Until then, enjoy the video! Cheers, Jill

Visiting the Midwest https://www.anotheradventure.net/visiting-the-midwest/ Fri, 10 Sep 2021 09:30:56 +0000 https://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3237 After leaving the Niagra Falls area we headed to visit Dave’s Mom’s side of the family in Michigan.  This week we are Visiting the Midwest. It was great to see all of the family while we were there.  It had been since we left on the boat and some even longer since we had seen them.  So, it was nice to catch up with everyone.  We spent the week with his mom checking out favorite spots to eat and checking out the area.   One afternoon we checked out his mom’s favorite winery, Cherry Creek Winery.  After that, we decided to check out a couple more that were in the area and one brewery. It was a fun afternoon.  We actually didn’t take any pictures, we just enjoyed our time with family and relaxed.  This was the first time I had been up here and the area is absolutely beautiful.  But before we knew it the week was up and it was time to head out and make our way west. Other Things One thing I wanted to mention is what else I have been working on.  I have been working on sprucing up the blog a bit and one of the things I have finished is the Who We Are page.  It tells the story of how we decided to sell everything and buy a boat.  You can check it out by clicking here.  I still have to do the info on our boat and that is in the works.  Just trying to decide if we should do a video tour of the boat or just some photos.  If you have any thoughts please feel free to leave me a comment below on what you would like to see.  I also have a few more things in the works for the blog so keep checking back. Sorry for such a short post this week, next we continue on our tour of the midwest on the way to my family.  We stop off in Wisconsin for some interesting sightseeing.  Stay tuned! Cheers, Jill

The Very Impressive Niagara Falls https://www.anotheradventure.net/the-very-impressive-niagara-falls/ Tue, 03 Aug 2021 09:30:43 +0000 http://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3159 This week we are visiting The Very Impressive Niagara Falls.  After our fantastic stay in Maine, it was time to move on.  I have never been here and Dave was a kid when he visited. It took us a couple of days of driving and some stops at Harvest Hosts before arriving here.  We arrived on a very rainy morning.  It had clearly rained at our campground all morning.  There was standing water and a nice flowing river behind our campsite.  Luckily it never got over the bank.  Since it was raining so bad Dave spent the afternoon working and I worked on some sourdough recipes and our plan for seeing the falls.  We originally were going to have two days to do it including the day we arrived since we got there so early.  However, due to the rain, we only ended up with one day.  No problem, we can’t get into Canada because of COVID so that makes it a little easier. Once the rain had subsided Dave and I decided to check out a fun place for dinner.  Most of the places were pretty packed and required reservations.  Since we kind of fly by the seat of our pants, it took a couple of stops before we found one.  We ended up at a local brewery that served burgers.  The food was good and so was the beer and cider. Niagara Falls The next morning we took the pups on a nice long walk and headed in to see the Falls.  We were able to snag a cheap parking spot and began the walk to the Falls.  We saw the American Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Bridal Falls, and the American Rapids.  We also did the Cave of the Winds tour which you can see in the video below.  So go ahead and click on the video below and if you like it please don’t forget to click the like button and subscribe to our youtube channel. Cheers, Jill

Hangin’ out in Maine https://www.anotheradventure.net/hangin-out-in-maine/ Wed, 28 Jul 2021 09:30:56 +0000 http://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3147 While we have been in Maine we have seen and done a lot of neat things that I have already shared.  This post is about the things we did in between and our last week in Maine.  We saw so many neat things I decided to throw this post together to share them. That is why I named it Hangin’ out in Maine Skowhegan This small town has a lot of history to it.  Check it out here.  It is known for having the oldest continuously held state fair in the U.S.  Famous artist Bernard Langlais was from here and you can see much of his art throughout the town and state.  We found several of his pieces.  I have included a picture of his most famous sculpture.  They also have some beautiful hikes and trails here.  We took the dogs on the riverwalk trail and it was beautiful.  Great views of the river.  They also have a nice farmers market on Saturdays and shops, bars, and restaurants to check out.  We had a fun afternoon here. Another great little spot we found was Belfast Maine. Belfast This quaint little town reminded me of what you would imagine a small Maine fishing village to look like.  Very neat, very beautiful. We spent an afternoon walking along the waterfront, enjoying the scenery and water.  It is always fun looking at all the boats in the anchorage.  They have a Cider Bar called Perennial here which is nothing like we have ever been to.  It is solely focused on ciders from all over.  We enjoyed a flight and a pint of our favorite.  They also serve food.  A fun stop all around. Leaving Maine We have really enjoyed our month here in Maine but it is time to move on and check out some other places and see some family.  Stay tuned as next week we visit Niagra Falls and we take some video.  We are working on getting back into doing more videos and will be incorporating those into the posts again.  Only a few photos this week but I hope you enjoy them. Cheers Jill

Our Visit to Acadia https://www.anotheradventure.net/our-visit-to-acadia/ Tue, 20 Jul 2021 09:30:03 +0000 http://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3137 We have been doing a lot of exploring in Maine and, this week it is all about Our Visit to Acadia.  Last week’s post was on the Maine highlands if you didn’t catch it click here.  Acadia National park sees over three million visitors a year according to the National Park Service.  This makes them one of the top 10 visited national parks in the United States.  The beauty in the park is incredible, and even more exciting is all the hiking trails they have available.  This is what we are most excited about. It has been a while since we have been on a good hike so, we are all set to do some serious hiking while we are here.  We broke up our hiking into two separate visits.  Our first visit was the Beech Cliff Ladder trail.  This trail has four metal ladders to climb which is great to get that heart pumping.  We really enjoyed this hike.  This hike really lets you know your thighs and calves are there.  Especially, for two people who haven’t been hiking in a while.  It was a great starter hike for us and the views were incredible.  It definitely helped us prepare for our next hike. Beehive trail This hike is a pretty strenuous hike.  It is actually classified as a climb and not a hike by the National Parks.  They were right.  There is a warning at the beginning of the trial that warns everyone that people have been seriously injured and killed on this hike.  There are no guard rails to protect you from falling off.  It is very open, so if you are not good with your balance or afraid of heights this trail might not be for you.  There is another trail that is more aggressive called the Precipice Trail.  However, it was closed due to Peregrine Falcon nesting in the area.  These falcons are being reintroduced into the park which is really amazing.  No worries we thoroughly enjoyed our climb up Beehive. After getting to the top of Beehive Trail we hiked down to Bowl lake another great spot.  Then we turned and completed our hike back to the car.  We did some filming and photos so, I put together a little video.  I know it has been a while since we have done a video so it may be a little rough but I hope you enjoy it.  Click on the link below to go to the video. Cheers, Jill

Enjoying the Maine Highlands https://www.anotheradventure.net/enjoying-the-maine-highlands/ Tue, 06 Jul 2021 09:30:03 +0000 http://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3088 We are absolutely loving Pumpkin Patch RV Park.  They take such good care of everything here.  It is so refreshing!  Everything is always so clean and everyone is so nice.  Now that we have gotten settled we decided it was time to dive into seafood at home.   After our delicious lobster on our way here, we were craving more.  We found a great market and picked up a couple of lobsters and boiled them.  Another night we did mussels.  Next time, we did steamed clams, raw oysters, and sauteed scallops in butter.  All of it delicious.  The seafood here is so lovely. We are really Enjoying the Maine Highlands Time to get out and about and see some of this great state.  We have done some research and decided to check out Greenville and Moosehead lake area.  We got a recommendation from a lady who told us that area would be our best moose sighting chance. So that is where we decided to go.  Dave planned out a nice route for the day. Highlands Maine is divided into 8 sections.  Our area and the Greenville area are considered the Maine Highlands.  It is really beautiful up here the photos don’t do it justice. On our way into Greenville, we found this goat farm that brewed beer.  Turning Page Farm Brewery.  A must stop, how often do you see that?  They sold goat cheese, goat milk salad dressing, etc.  Unfortunately, we didn’t bring a cooler, or I would have snatched that stuff up.  The beer was very tasty and they made their own sausages which, were delicious!  What a great stop and we got to enjoy our lunch all while being entertained by the goats. Greenville is a quaint little town on Moosehead lake.  The lake is beautiful and so peaceful.  We spent a little time walking around the town. I saw a sign for Maine chocolate so we went in to inquire.  However, it wasn’t what I was looking for, no worries on we went. We spent the rest of the afternoon driving around the area looking at all the beautiful scenery. I am happy to report we saw three moose.  Two off in the distance in the water and one almost right in front of us. I didn’t get a very good picture of him he was on his way before I could get my camera.  I did get some really nice shots of the others though. What a great day!  The landscape is so beautiful here I can only imagine how breathtaking the colors are in the fall.  We are really enjoying it so far.  See you next week for more of Maine. Cheers, Jill

We Made it to Maine https://www.anotheradventure.net/we-made-it-to-maine/ Tue, 29 Jun 2021 09:30:18 +0000 http://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=3078 We are so excited! We Made it to Maine.  After leaving Boston we drove over to New Hampshire.  We did an overnight at an Alpaca Farm called Snow Pond Farm.  The guy told us all about the place gave us a tour (I forgot my camera), and things to check out in Maine and the area.  Very nice stop and very nice people. Maine We got into Maine that next morning and stopped for lunch and then to our Harvest Host for the night.  By far our favorite spot.  It was Funky Bow Brewery.  They have pizzas and burgers along with the beer.  The best part is they have this huge area and it is all dog friendly with no leash required.  They actually have signs posted that say “Strict NO leash policy here”. It was really fantastic.  The pups had a blast playing with all the other puppies. Our next stop was another harvest host Lone Pine Brewery.  Good nice beer.  After getting our spot and supporting our hosts we headed into the Portland Headlight.  They say it’s the most photographed headlight in the world.  It was really beautiful.  On top of that, there was a sailing race going on so we got to enjoy that as well.  They have a section where your dogs can be off-leash here.  Love this state so far.  The pups are loving all this freedom! Next, we moved to Boothbay for the night and went into town with the pups, and walked around.  It is a neat little area.  The next morning we headed into Bangor. Bangor On the way there we found this great place on the water for lunch.  We had our first lobsters here.  They were delicious.  After that, we headed to the RV park.  We have an RV spot for a month just outside of Bangor.  It is really nice to get set up and relax for a bit.  I love traveling and seeing new places but it is nice to check out an area for a while too. We plan on doing some hiking in Acadia National Park, checking out the highlands, friends are coming for a visit, and I am sure much more!  See you next week! Cheers, Jill

Touring Boston https://www.anotheradventure.net/touring-boston/ Wed, 23 Jun 2021 09:30:15 +0000 http://www.anotheradventure.net/?p=2943 After all our stays in different spots over the last week, we are finally making our way to Massachusets.  We are staying about an hour’s drive (with traffic) outside of Boston.  We will be here for the week to check out all the history here. Touring Boston is our main focus of this trip but we may do some other cities as well if we have time. Campground So, we spent the first day getting set up, things cleaned, etc.  The park is ok, it’s got lots of beautiful pine trees.  The spaces are a bit tight if you have someone next to you.  We got lucky and no one was on one of our sides.  It does get a little dreary with all the pines but the shade is nice to keep the camper cool.  This is our first campsite that you had to pay for hot water in the showers.  twenty-five cents for six minutes of hot water.  I don’t mind that, humans are huge water wasters.  Especially hot water. The one thing I didn’t like about their showers is all of your things, clothes, towels had to be stored outside the shower on the wall.  I am a pretty private person and I am not a big fan of having to undress and then go into the shower and vice versa.  They do offer firepits at most campsites.  It is pretty quiet and it worked great for us going into Boston. The next day we went into Boston for lunch however finding parking was ridiculous and extremely expensive for what we could find.  We ended up driving around checking things out and then finding a brewery (Dorchester brewing) that had their own parking and served food.  The beer was pretty good.  After that, we checked out Sam Adams brewery which unfortunately did not offer tours due to COVID.  We also checked out Turtle Swamp Brewery which had good beer as well. Tomorrow we will do some sightseeing. Freedom Trail There are 16 stops on the Freedom Trail tour.  You can do a self-guided tour (this is what we did) or pay for a tour.  However, most of the tours you pay for don’t stop at all the sights.  It is a bit of walking so just be prepared.  We brought plenty of water with us, it was supposed to be in the ’90s.   On our first day, we made it to almost all of them.  We did 14 of the 16 but the heat got to be a lot and the last two were the longer walks.  We decided to stop for the day after we stopped for a refreshment and snack and bathroom break.  What we decided was to come back the next morning and start from the end and finish up the last two.  Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution ship. Union House Oyster Bar On our walk back to the car we stopped in at Union House Oyster Bar.  We got lucky and there were two seats at the bar where they shuck the oysters.  What a great time we had chatting with the two guys doing the shucking.  Of course, we had to try the oysters and they were fantastic!!  We also had the colonial ale beer which is brewed by Sam Adams exclusively for this bar.  You can’t buy it anywhere else so if you find yourself in Boston and you like good beer stop in and have a pint and some oysters.   You won’t be disappointed. Sunday we got up and headed into Boston and finished the Freedom Trail.  Bunker Hill had a beautiful view of the area.  My favorite stop was the USS Constitution.  We got lucky they just opened tours back up.  Going aboard and walking the ship was really neat.  It is still a functioning ship and sails to this day.  She is the oldest ship in the world floating.  She does special events for the navy today but she is most famous for her part in the War of 1812. Holocaust Memorial Another great stop was the Holocaust memorial.  It’s not really a standard memorial but six glass pillars that you walk through.   There are millions of numbers etched into the glass representing the numbers that were tattooed on the arms of those in the camps.  I highly recommend stopping here it is very sobering.  It is important not to forget the past and this memorial is done so well.  It lights up at night so you can tour it at any time. Conclusion There is a lot of history in Boston.  If you are only in Boston for a few days and not sure what to do, I recommend the Freedom Trail and Holocaust Memorial.  It is a great way to see a lot of history, get some exercise and enjoy the city.  I don’t recommend a car downtown and driving around, it’s best to not have one or park it and walk.  It is less stressful and you really get to enjoy the city on foot.  Or at least we really enjoyed it more on foot. We visited a few other areas in the city and around our area but these were the highlights of our week.  As always enjoy the photos. Cheers, Jill
