Packing is always one of the fun parts of getting ready for me. It gets me excited and I have been known to start packing several weeks before a trip.  Packing for a sailing vacation is even more exciting. On this trip, we have people going with us who have never been on a sailing vacation. Because of this, I wanted to come up with a packing list for them to make things easier so they didn’t forget something. This list will also make it easier for me on trips going forward. If you want to grab the packing list I made you can click  Packing Checklist to get it.  I hope it helps you as much as it has helped all of us.  With all the packing comes the shopping for new things like tops, suits, gadgets, etc.  We are getting SO EXCITED!!!

I thought I would talk about some of the items we love and must-haves for the trip and why.   This is such a fun post I thoroughly enjoy it.    So, without further ado let’s get started.

We are going to be sailing and most people immediately think about sea sickness.  We haven’t had any issues but you never know.  I always pack Sea Bands with me. These are my favorite and work really well for me. I am not a big fan of the sea sickness pills but if you are make sure you bring them along.  I am sure you will be bringing a phone and, you don’t want your phone to get wet. A waterproof phone case is something we always bring. This one fits several different types of phones and works really well. We always bring a Water Bag to put our gear in when going ashore. Over the years we have used many but I really like this one

When you charter you can rent snorkeling gear but we always bring our own.  I know they clean them but I just prefer my own.  If you don’t have room to bring the whole set I would at least bring the snorkel.  I really like this kind because it keeps water from coming back into your snorkel. Oh! one thing you want to make sure you pack is Sunscreen.  Make sure you bring stuff that doesn’t harm the ocean reefs.  We love these two brands of sunscreen Sun Bum and Alba.

For videoing or taking pictures while snorkeling, we bring our Go-Pro with us. They work great for snorkeling. You can get attachments and put them on your snorkel mask or hold them on a retractable stick. There are so many options. One of the best parts is they don’t take up much space when packing.

Don’t forget to pack these sunglasses keepers we really like this style. You don’t want to lose your sunglasses to the water.  Especially, if you wear prescription sunglasses like I do.

Some other things I absolutely love and bring with me are these Sperry Flip Flops. They don’t scuff up the boat and don’t get slippery when wet.  I have had some other flip-flops and nearly killed myself when they got wet.

Also, I bring a wide-brim hat.  I am partial to the straw ones like this but if you want one you can throw it in your luggage and don’t have to carry it on, I get that too.  On my first trip I bought one there, but they can be expensive depending on where you go.

Well, I hope that helps you with what to bring and why. I think it shows you some of our favorite items when packing for a sailing vacation that we love to bring with us. I guess I better finish doing my own packing.

Happy Packing,

Jill
