In my last post, we had a major part of the boat removed. Check that post out here.   Now, after all our long days and hard work and the hard work by the crew at Yacht Riggers, we are a sailboat once again.

While the mast was down

We made a lot of improvements while we had the opportunity.  Here is what we did in no particular order.  We pulled out all the old wiring and ran all new wire.  Next, we installed a new steaming light (ours was on the fritz anyway).  We replaced our horn, added a new VHF antenna to the top of the mast.  Added a spreader light to the mast.  One of our favorite new additions that we are most excited about is our new Mast Camera that Dave mounted to the very top of the mast.  (look for future posts using this camera)  We are so excited to use this for several things.  We can’t wait to use it underway to see things ahead of us, take videos of dolphins, and other things.  This could be a great tool to help with docking, and so much more.

Putting the mast back on

Due to waiting on some parts that had to be ordered, we ended up having the mast off longer than planned.  It was no big deal and all worked out in the end for timing.  We motored the boat back over to Salt Creek Marina and began the process.  Today, we got to help a lot more than when it came off.  Because of this, I didn’t take any video footage or photos.  We spent most of the day getting everything reassembled and tuned and were back at our dock before dinner.  We were very pleased with all of the work from Yacht Riggers.  If you need sailboat rigging or marine hardware in The Saint Petersburg area please check them out.  They did such great work and their customer service was fantastic.  Thanks again Yacht Riggers.

What’s next

This was the project that was holding us here and now that it is complete it is time to plan.  We have decided to head south and finally check out The Dry Tortugas, Key West again and some other favorites.  Now, we will spend the next couple of weeks getting the boat back together and provisioned.   Then we will head out.  We have some friends coming to stay for a night and help us put our sails back on which will be a great time.  Next post we will be heading south, I can’t wait to go sailing again! Stay tuned.

Cheers,

Jill
